Trauma can be the result of a single life-threatening event, the impact of war, refugee, or immigrant status on the family, chronic exposure to a dangerous community environment, domestic violence, or abusive work environment. Trauma can also stem from emotional abuse and neglect in childhood.

Traumatic Incident Reduction (TIR) is an evidence-based treatment for reducing and resolving symptoms of PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) and Complex Trauma. I use a highly structured format to assist clients in reprocessing traumatic memories, which releases clients from the emotional reactivity or numbness they have been tolerating sometimes for years or even decades. The link between the traumatic memories and the associated intense emotional content becomes disconnected.

Treatment planning for veterans and first responders can be especially tricky, as there are unique factors that affect their mental and emotional health. They may come to their profession already exposed to high degrees of trauma or stress, and their current work environment compounds those issues. An expectation of presenting a good "front" can make it difficult for someone to seek help. The combination of new and old triggers can make it difficult to identify the core problems and select the best treatment. I create integrative treatment plans that balance  PTSD, TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury), medications, addictions, and other potential factors that affect recovery and functioning.

Together, we unpack the trauma and clients develop the skills they need to move toward healing and clarity - for themselves,  and for their families.
